RAPRA
Risk Analysis for Phytophthora ramorum : Objectives

Project Objectives:
The overall objective of RAPRA will be achived through a range of specific and measurable objectives, each one relating to a specific Work Package:
Further details of the objectives relating to Work Packages 1 to 9 can be viewed by clicking on the relevent button on the left of this webpage. Further details of the objective relating to Work Package 8 (Pest Risk Analysis) can also be viewed by clicking on the 'Pest Risk Analysis' button.

WORK PACKAGE 1: Distribution To collate and publish available information on the extent of entry and distribution of Phytophthora ramorum in the EU and Europe.

WORK PACKAGE 2: Host susceptibility To establish the level of susceptibility (to both European and American isolates) of tree and non-tree species of significant environmental and economic value to the EU.

WORK PACKAGE 3: Epidemiology To quantify the sporulation, germination, infection, incubation period, latency, survival and dispersal components of the epidemiology of European and American isolates of P. ramorum.

WORK PACKAGE 4: Mating potential To establish the potential for mating between P. ramorum (predominantly A1 mating type) found in Europe and P. ramorum (predominantly A2 mating type) present in the USA.

WORK PACKAGE 5: Impact To evaluate the likely environmental and socio-economic impact of P. ramorum.

WORK PACKAGE 6: Chemical control To evaluate at least three existing and at least two new chemical active ingredients for the control of P. ramorum in ornamentals.

WORK PACKAGE 7: Management Using strategic information from WPs 1-6 to develop, refine and publish harmonised risk management strategies and contingency plans for dealing with P. ramorum in Europe while minimising the need to disrupt free trade.

WORK PACKAGE 8: Pest Risk Analysis To develop, refine and publish a European Pest Risk Analysis for P. ramorum and provide information to underpin and advise EU plant health policy and legislation.

WORK PACKAGE 9: Dissemination To disseminate the results and acheivements of the project.

WORK PACKAGE 10: Project Management To co-ordinate research and development work of the project, organise meetings and the reporting of results during the life of the project.
